Wedding at Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalba

There are places that look stunning in photos, but in person, they’re on a whole different level. That’s exactly what happened with Meghan and Marcos and their wedding at the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalba.
Since we hadn’t photographed an event there before, we did our homework and studied the grounds beforehand—but nothing could have prepared us for the actual experience.
The site is incredible, pure history; we’re talking about a monastery founded in 1388. Practically everything you see and step on is over 600 years old!
Experiencing a wedding like this (both for the couple and for us) is massive, especially if you’re looking for that perfect “alternative wedding” vibe.
But let’s get to the heart of the matter: Meghan and Marcos.
The preparations took place in two of the convent’s rooms. The light streaming through the single window in each room, paired with the historic architecture, gave the whole scene a very visual, Caravaggio-esque feel. However, the hallways, flooded with light from many windows, changed the mood entirely, making it feel warmer and more open, yet just as striking.
The ceremony was held among trees and greenery, right by the river that Meghan loved so much. It was a brisk ceremony, but like all great weddings, it was deeply emotional.
Afterward, we took a few portraits of the couple before heading to the cocktail hour in one of the most beautiful spots we’ve ever seen: the lower cloister and its courtyard. Because of the time of day, the way the light hit the stone made everything look even more magical.
The banquet was held in another area of the convent that lives up to its name: the Romantic Gardens. Illuminated by string lights and blending historical surroundings with nature and gorgeous decor, these gardens hosted Meghan and Marcos’ loved ones, who listened to the beautiful speeches shared by their closest family members.
And then, the first dance and the party. Any Paolo Sorrentino fans out there? Celebrating a modern event in a 14th-century convent felt exactly like a scene out of The New Pope. It felt like being inside a classic masterpiece that was somehow also contemporary.
For the first dance, the couple came down from the armory, descending the stairs into the refectory. Once the dance finished, we moved back to the banquet area -specifically the terrace by the ivy-covered facade-. With colorful lights, a live band, and plenty of dancing, it was the perfect end to an unforgettable day.
